History: Saint Mary-of-the-Woods was founded in 1840 by the Sisters of Providence. SMWC is the nation’s oldest Catholic liberal arts college for women.

Location: SMWC is located in Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., five miles northwest of Terre Haute, which is also home to Indiana State University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Our spacious 67-acre campus also includes a fitness trail and lake.

Enrollment/Student Body Profile: Total students: 1,700 (325 campus, 1,225 distance students, 125 graduate)

Academics: The College offers campus-based undergraduate degree programs for women, and distance undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs for both women and men.

Faculty: As a Catholic women’s college, you might expect that our faculty are just that. While a large number of our faculty are women and religious, we have a great balance of experienced female, male, religious and lay faculty, all of whom have views and faith choices that are very diverse.
